MAYA
(KILLER INSTINCT 2)

Maya Killer Instinct Cosplay

The official character

DESCRIPTION:

As promised, here’s finally my Maya cosplay from Killer Instinct 2! I love portraying less common characters.
With this one, I’ve now cosplayed all three female characters from the game (in the future, I might want to redo
Kim Wu cosplay since I only have a few old photos)!
I’ve always overlooked this character a bit, partly because I’ve always preferred Orchid and Kim, and partly because I was never really good at using her moves and combos in the game.
So I never thought about cosplaying her until now, but after remaking the
Orchid cosplay, I thought… why not?
I believe
no one has ever cosplayed this specific version, so I’m happy to post something new online!
I waited for the summer in the hopes of looking a bit more tanned for the role of the blonde amazon, and even though I still don’t feel like she’s a character that fits me, I think the set turned out great!

I made the costume pieces myself: my mom had given me this "furry" fabric that suited the genre, even though it didn’t have the leopard print, which I had to paint by hand with fabric paint.
At first, I made a bit of a mess, and the leopard texture on the bikini and shorts in particular didn’t turn out very well, while I’m more satisfied with the result on the greaves and bracelets. The fabric is probably a bit too yellow, but I didn’t want to be too picky!
I’m sad that my mom is no longer here to see the result (she always helped me with the sewing part of my cosplays, so sewing a pair of shorts that fit me perfectly, with an elastic waistband and trimming, was a milestone for me!)...

I found a wig with a hairstyle as close as possible on
Aliexpress, and I was surprised by the good quality: the hair is soft, voluminous, and thick!
I had some trouble fixing the diadem, which I made with foam and moldable foam clay (of a type that caused me several issues since, once dried, it’s a material that tends to lose flexibility and break if bent even slightly), and I also added a few fake hair strands to try to emulate the anti-gravity bangs X)
I could have done better and maybe covered the strands with some locks from the wig, but at a certain point, I just got tired of working on it because I was too impatient to finish everything.

The accessories, like the pouches on the legs, are made of foam and foam profiles (same for the various edges of the pieces),
even the breasts are fake and made of foam (– I didn’t have big boobs to recreate that kind of "bikini" naturally; I lost some weight recently, so I also lost a significant bra size ._.)

The daggers were supposed to be made by a friend skilled in crafting fake weapons, but due to some setbacks, I decided to try making them myself with zero cost:
I found some thick
styrofoam and some ceramic powder that I bought for modeling many years ago, so I cut out the shapes of the blades (about 26/28 cm), coated them with PVA glue, ceramic paste, and then more PVA glue before painting them with acrylics. The result was a bit rough, but once painted, I didn’t mind the effect: they look like natural hand-carved stone blades, which in a way is perfect for the context of an Amazon living in the jungle.
I made the handles with cardboard, which I then covered with foam.

Finally, I shot the set in my usual home studio, and I took the time needed for
post-production and search materials for the backgrounds and setting.
I took some backgrounds from the photo modes of
Cyberpunk 2077 and Banishers, but I also had to do quite a bit of editing for others (like the photo set in Gargos’s stage or the image of Maya’s finishing move where she crushes her opponent with an elephant!).
Some poses are directly inspired by Maya’s CG images (I’ll post some comparisons!).

It was a fun little project to complete, and I really hope it will be appreciated by both fans of the game and those who aren’t familiar with it!
Enjoy the pictures!
