Super Sailor Mars
(Sailor Moon S)
The official character
DESCRIPTION:
Here’s a new cosplay! Super Sailor Mars straight from the Sailor Moon series!
With this, I wanted to pay tribute not only to my very first cosplay ever when I was a child, but also to my favorite heroine throughout my childhood and teenage years.
It was the 90s, and in the afternoons after school, I never missed a single episode of the show.
I was so obsessed with Sailor Moon that I memorized all the identity cards of the various Sailor Guardians, including their birthdates, blood types, hobbies, and so much more!
Of course, I also caught the Sailor fever, and I began building a modest collection of gadgets, figures, posters, and other themed items.
I remember having the Moon Scepters and crystals, the transformation wands of my favorite Sailors (which secretly held nail polishes inside), dolls, gashapon, super deformed figures, and even mini figures from potato chip bags. I believe I regret selling most of my collection once my passion waned in favor of other interests (I even traded my complete collection of the original manga for the Dragon Ball one. I loved Dragon Ball, but in hindsight, I would have held on to my Sailor Moon manga).
So, this cosplay brings back a bit of nostalgia, recalling a really distant period, and even though at nearly 40 it’s hard for me to fit into the role of a young Rei Hino, I hope to bring some "Sailor vibes" to you while still maintaining my style.
I dedicate this cosplay to my mom with all my heart: for one carnival, she made the costume for me when I was still a little girl, and she was so proud of the result. In fact, her work was far superior to the average quality of carnival costumes sold in supermarkets back then, and I even sparked a bit of envy among the other girls! The advantage of having a mom who worked as a seamstress!
I would have loved to show her the photos of this new version of Sailor Mars, but there wasn’t enough time.
So… mom, this one’s for you! <3
This costume reminds me a lot of the one she made many years ago. I bought it on Aliexpress, and I was really surprised by the quality and the good price, especially considering that all the accessories were included and well-made, like the tiara, the scrolls, earrings, and the choker with the star.
Even the packaging is adorable and helps keep the costume organized in one place.
I only had to add the shoes and the wig I already had at home, so it was a cosplay that required very little effort—just the time needed for post-production and creating some of the scenes.
The fiery Mars-style backgrounds and the night sky ones were created by me in 3D using “Dreams” for PS4. The quality was what it was, but it was fun!
For the rest of the photos, I chose more urban settings from my video game screenshots (Street Fighter 6 and Cyberpunk was especially useful for this), and others near shrines, remembering that Mars is a priestess.
Some of the poses were inspired by drawings and fan art I found online, as well as Mars' classic pose after her transformation.
There might be a few inaccuracies because my memories are a bit distant, so if you want to be nitpicky, the photo where Sailor Mars is injured in the ice refers to the final episodes of the first season of Sailor Moon, where the Sailors lose their lives in the final battle, but I didn't consider that the costume is that of Super Sailor Mars from the third season (my favourite!). Oops!
I would have liked to do more with the attack poses, but the truth is that many photos came out too blurry this time, and I couldn’t save the ones meant to reference her other attacks. Too bad, but I’m still happy with the result (I think my favorite photo is the one with the fiery arrow!).
I hope you’ll like it too!
Enjoy the pics!
(ps- as a soundtrack, I chose the beautiful Italian theme song of the third series of the 90's anime, my favorite)
