RAVEN
(
SHADOWGATE RISING)

Raven Shadowgate

The official character

DESCRIPTION:

And here I am again with an unexpected cosplay!
Don’t worry, if you have no idea who
Raven from Shadowgate is, well... neither do I!
However, I can tell you that I’m a huge fan of
Shadowgate 64, which was released many years ago as an exclusive for Nintendo's 64-bit console.
A first-person graphic adventure, playable in three dimensions, set in a medieval fantasy world. It really impressed me with its atmosphere and captivated me with its puzzles, which involved using and combining objects collected during the adventure: mysterious keys, dusty tomes, magical tools, potions, and much more.
I’d say there are no other titles quite like Shadowgate 64—it has a
unique feel.
The Nintendo 64 version was quite different from the original Shadowgate, which was a 2D point-and-click adventure with a time limit.
What drew me in the most was the free exploration of the environments, and those who know me know how much I’ve always desperately wanted a sequel.
And that's exactly where Raven would have come in, the protagonist of
Shadowgate Rising, what was supposed to be the sequel to Shadowgate 64, but unfortunately, it was canceled when Nintendo announced the arrival of the Game Cube.
I don’t know the exact origins of Raven; I know there are
comics where she’s the protagonist (Shadowgate Saga: Raven—the story should be based on the Rising project), but I’ve never had the pleasure of owning or reading them.
Recently, however, a few Shadowgate games have been released on PC, like
Beyond Shadowgate and a revamped classic Shadowgate.
Also, just recently, almost unnoticed,
Shadowgate II seems to have quietly been released, with Raven as the main character.
I can’t say for sure if it’s a reworked version or conclusion of Shadowgate Rising under another name, but I’d be really happy if one day Rising could finally become a reality and give a proper sequel to the wonderful Shadowgate 64.
Actually,
there’s a character from the N64 game that I want to cosplay, but I still need to get started on that.
I chose Raven because I was able to put it together with some makeshift materials and clothing, so I’d call it more of an "instant cosplay", but I don’t think the result is too bad!
With this cosplay, I wanted to show my love for Shadowgate and help spread awareness of the games in the series:
if sales increased enough, they might even bring them to consoles, and who knows, maybe even resurrect and finish Shadowgate Rising!
I highly recommend giving them a try <3
